Creative Writing
The three-week course will be held in Summer School Almere, organized by Drs. Maria van Daalen.
Maria van Daalen is a professional poet from The Netherlands. She has participated in many literary festivals worldwide and has taught poetry and creative writing both in Dutch and in American English.
“Literature is a country”, says Clark Blaise, the Canadian writer and former Director of the famous International Writing Program in Iowa. Literature is international meeting-place, and poetry is a universal language. In this course, the student will improve her/his own literary writing skills through reading and writing exercises. Writing: Any genre is allowed; the main focus will be on poetry and short prose. Reading: Poems and short prose by famous European writers from all times and places, with a special on Dutch contemporary poetry (English translations provided).
Contact hours: 30 plus excursions (poetry evenings/events)

All students interested and aiming for better skills in creative writing.
Learn the skills of the writer´s trade and ultimately your academic writing will improve. Experience the joy of language, discover the poet inside, and dance with the Muse.
Class sessions will be primarily focussed on learning the skills of a writer. Student participation in class discussions is an integral part of the class and it is therefore expected of every student. Students are encouraged to ask questions, actively participate in discussions, and comment on reading and lecture materials. Moreover they are expected to have completed all assigned readings prior to each class in order to actively participate in class discussion.
